HC verdict on policy against coaching business Feb 7

DHAKA: The High Court set February 7 for delivering its verdict and disposal of its previous rule issued over taking action against the teachers and the "Policy-2012 to stop teachers from doing coaching business at educational institutions."

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalilon Sunday (Jan 27) fixed the date after hearing arguments on some writ petition regarding the issue.

Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) while Barrister M Amirul Islam stood for a petitioner. Amicus Curio was Fida M Kamal.

The HC issued a rule upon the government over taking action against the teachers and the "Policy-2012 to stop teachers from doing coaching business at educational institutions."

As per Anti Corruption Commission’s recommendation, the government has served show-cause notices to some teachers of Motijheel Government Boy’s School in Dhaka for their involvement in coaching business defying restriction.

Teachers filed writ petitions challenging the notice as well as the "Policy-2012 to stop teachers from doing coaching business at educational institutions."

ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told reporters, “The HC bench was scheduled to deliver its verdict on Coaching Business today. Of the two amicus curios, former attorney general Hasan Arif placed his opinion before the court in previous hearing. Today, another one placed his opinion before the bench.  He elaborated the both negative and positive impacts of the coaching business.”

Later, the court asked him (Fida M Kamal) to submit written opinion before it by next Sunday, the ACC lawyer added.
