DHAKA: The High Court sentenced a steno clerk of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to 11 years in prison for vanishing some 57 documents related to multi-storey building design approval.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order Sunday (Mar 3).
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik and Assistant Attorney General Helena Begum China moved for the state while lawyer Asif Hasan moved for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and AKM Fakhrul Islam for the accused, at the courtroom.
As per the case statement, Rajuk’s state section steno clerk Shafiullah damaged and vanished some 57 documents of building design approval by abusing power and neglecting duty.
ACC Deputy Director Khandaker Akheruzzaman filed a case against him with Motijheel Police Station on Oct 10, 2013.
He was earlier released by a special judge court in Dhaka.
ACC later filed an appeal with the HC challenging the judgment.
However, on Sunday, the HC ordered Shafiullah to surrender before the trial court within 15 days.
