JHENIDAH: A court here on Tuesday (Mar 12) sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for killing a madrasa student in 2015.

The lifers are Atahar Ali Sheikh alias Atik Hujur, son of late Kashem Ali Sheikh of Morolganj upazila in Bagerhat and JHabibur Rahman, son of Anarul Islam of Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenidah

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer two months more rigorous imprisonment.

It also acquitted two accused Nasir Sarker and Yusuf Ali as murder charges brought against them was not proved.  

According to prosecution, masrasa student Miraz Hossain, a resident of Bhomradanga village of Kotchandpur upazila, went to hear sermons at a waz mahfil at a nearby madrasa on March 14, 2015. 

His decapitated body was found at maize field in the village on the following day.

Later, Jinder Ali, paternal uncle of the victim, filed a case accusing four people.

After investigation, police submitted charge sheet against four people. 

After examining records and witnesses, Judge MG Azam of Jhenidah additional district and session judge-1 convicted the duo and acquitted two others.
