DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday (Mar 13) summoned the director of air quality management division under Department of Environment (DoE) over Dhaka air pollution.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the order.
The environment official will have to appear before the court on Apr 10 for his explanation.
Advocate Manzil Morshed moved for the writ, at the courtroom.
On Mar 6, an English daily published a report saying Dhaka second worst among the world cities in air pollution index. Two international organizations were also cited in the report.
A DoE director then termed the ranking untrue.
Therefore, the court has summoned the director of air quality management division for his version.
Besides, a report also has to be submitted to the court on what measures have been taken by the DoE to prevent air pollution.
