DHAKA: The High Court issued a rule over the “weird use” of Bangla words labeled on Coca Cola soft drinks’ bottles as part of a campaign.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the order Thursday (Mar 14).

In the rule, the HC asked to reply why action won’t be taken for running advertisements using Bangla worlds like ‘Jotil’, ‘Pyara’, ‘Fanpor’, ‘Chorom’, ‘Babu’, ‘Dhila’ etc labeled on bottles of Coca Cola.

Writ petitioner Md Moniruzzaman Rana confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Secretaries of information, industry, culture, law, education, home, Bangla Academy director general, inspector general of police (IGP) and managing director of International Beverages Pvt Ltd have been asked to reply the rule within four weeks.

In the writ, the petitioner alleged that the words are carrying distorted meanings in the bottles of Coca Cola and it should stop.

However, Coca Cola recently started a campaign titled ‘Bangla Ekhon Bangla Tokhon’ showing peculiar colloquial meanings of some Bangla words.
