Four to die for killing 2 siblings in Mymensingh

MYMENSINGH: A court here on Wednesday (March 20) sentenced four people to death and three others to one year jail term each for killing two siblings in Tarakanda upazila in 2001.

The death-row convicts are Liakat Ali, 55, son of Jamir Anwar Hossian, 35, son of Liakat Ali, Abul Kashem, 50, son of Jamir Uddin and Hossain Ali, 62, son of Siraz Ali Uddin in Ramchandrapur area of the upazila. 

Other condemned convicts are Foyez Uddin, Kurtul Miah, said Khadaker Zahidul Islam, inspector of Mymensingh court.

The court also acquitted 16 others as their involvement the killing was not proved.

According to the prosecution, the convicts brutally murdered two siblings –Abdur Rashid and Gias Uddin with lethal weapons following previous enmity over land on August 4, 2001.

Two days later, Abdul Khaleque, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Tarakanda police station accusing 22 people. 

Later, police arrested all the accused from different areas of the country. 

After examining all the records and witnesses, Mymensingh Special Judge Court Md Ehsanul Haque handed down the verdict.
