DHAKA: The High Court on Saturday (March 23) has withdrawn its earlier order that granted bail for one year to sensational Subarnachar gang-rape case prime accused Ruhul Amin.
The HC bench of Justice Mamnun Rahman and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman issued the withdrawal.
The same bench earlier issued the bail order on March 18.
The court fixed March 25 for next hearing, said Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy.
Lawyer Md Ashek-e-Rasul moved for the accused, at the courtroom.
The victim alleged that Ruhul Amin threatened her while she was returning home after voting for ‘paddy sheaf’ in the 11th parliamentary elections on December 30, 2018. At the night, a group of 10 men raped her after tying her husband and children at her residence.
The husband of the 32-year-old woman filed a case with Char Jabbar Police Station on December 31.
The mother-of-four claimed that all the attackers were followers of Ruhul Amin Member, a former member of Char Jubilee Union Parishad and publicity secretary of the upazila unit Awami League.
The upazila unit of the ruling party later sacked Ruhul Amin on January 4.
Police arrested 10 persons over the gang-rape that triggered widespread criticism countrywide.
