DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday (April 7) seeking compensation for the students affected in a primary school ceiling collapse in Barguna’s Taltali upazila.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Hasan Tarek Polash and “Law & Life Foundation” filed the plea.
A newspaper report on the incident that left class-III girl Mansura killed and five other children injured when a concrete grade beam of Chotobogi PK Govt Primary School building collapsed during a class Saturday (April 6) noon, was attached to the plea.
Compensation Tk one crore to Mansura’s family and 10 lakh to each of the injured families were sought in the plea.
Besides, treatment cost for the victims was also sought.
Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab will move for the plea, at the courtroom.
The petitioners also sought an HC rule to ensure safe and healthy environment in all the educational institutes in the country.
Secretaries to education, ministry of primary and mass education, local government, Barguna deputy commissioner, Taltali UNO, Chotobogi PK Govt Primary School head teacher and the owner of Setu Enterprise were made defendants.
