DHAKA: The Supreme Court on Tuesday (April 9) upheld the High Court order that asked Suprabhat Paribahan to pay Tk 10 lakh to family of Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, who ran over by a bus of the transport service.

Four members appeal bench, led by chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Tuesday (April 9) passed the order rejecting the petition filed by the transport group. 
  
Earlier on March 20, the High Court directed Suprabhat Paribahan to provide Tk 10 lakh within seven days to Abrar Ahmed who was ran over by a bus of the transport group. 

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam on Wednesday (March 20) passed the order after hearing a petition seeking compensation to the victim’s family.

Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, a road safety campaigner and a first year student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), was run over by a bus on Progati Sarani area .

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned and Suprobhat Paribahan to explain within four weeks why they should not be directed to compensate Tk 5 crore to Abrar’s family and why continuous failure of the government to prevent road accidents should not be declared illegal.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal filed the petition and deputy attorney general AKM Zahid Sarwar Kajol moved for the state.

The HC directed BRTA, Director of Road Accident Research Institute of BUET and additional commissioner (traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to give a detailed report of that accident.

Earlier on Tuesday (March 19), Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, 20, a first year student of International Relations Department of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), was killed as a recklessly driven city bus ran over him on Pragati Sarani in the capital city.
