DHAKA: A Dhaka court has ordered authorities concerned to freeze three bank accounts of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman with a bank in UK.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Sessions' Judge KM Imrul Kayes on Thursday passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC sources said all the three accounts are with Santander UK bank, PLC.
As per ACC investigation, UK’s Financial Intelligence Unit earlier froze the accounts, halting transfer of £59,341 to those from an organisation of UK and Tarique-Zubaida have been trying to transfer the fund somewhere else.
ACC prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said the orders will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office in Britain through Bangladesh home ministry. Attorney General’s Office in Britain will implement the order through sending it to bank concerned.
