DHAKA: A special tribunal on Wednesday (April 24) sentenced two war criminals from Netrokona to death upon conviction in crimes against humanity during the Liberation war in 1971.

Three-member International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam, gave the verdict in absentia of one of the convict. 
    
The two accused are Hedayet Ullah, 80, and Sohrab Fakir, 88. 

Earlier on March 7, the tribunal declared the judgment CAV after the counsels of both sides concluded arguments in the case.

On December 13, 2017, the ICT 1 framed six specific charges of crimes including genocide, deportation, killing and torture against them.

On January 10, 2017, the tribunal took into cognizance the formal charge submitted by the prosecution. 

In the testimony of 40 witnesses, crimes, including abduction, torture, robbery, torching, murder, genocide and forced extradition were found against the accused.

They committed these crimes at Modhuyakhari, Mobarakpur and Sukhari villages of Atpara thana and Madan village under Madan thana of Netrokona. On the basis of which, six charges have been brought against the trio.

At that time, there were three accused in the case, Hedayet Ullah Anju, his brother Enayet Ullah Monju and Sohrab Fakir.

Of the three, Enayet Ullah Monju and Sohrab Fakir were arrested.

However, on January 25, 2017, Monju died of old age complications at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
