JHENIDAH: A court here has awarded life term jail sentence to a young man for raping a baby girl in Maheshpur upazila.

Jhenidah Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Raji on Thursday (May 9) passed the order. 

The court also fined him Tk 20,000; in default, he has to serve another year jail term.

As per the prosecution, Tarikul Islam, son of Mannan Hossian of Laxmipur village of the upazila, raped daughter of his neighbor after taking her in a nearby bamboo bush in the afternoon on July 30, 2010.

The following day, victim’s father filed case with Maheshpur police station accusing Tarikul.

Later on November 22 that year, police submitted charge-sheet in the case.

After examining all the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict.
