COMILLA: A court here on Monday (May 13) sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment on charge of burning a girl to death after rape.

The convicts-- Abu Taleb and Josna Begum, residents of Comilla sadar south upazila, were also fined Tk 10,000 each. 

Comilla Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge MA Aual issued the order, at noon.

Special Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Pradip Kumar Datta moved for the state, at the courtroom.

Of the convicts, Abu Taleb has been grilled while Josna Begum absconding. 

Court sources said that Abu Taleb raped the victim Nilufa Akter after alluring her to marry. At one stage, the girl became seven months pregnant. She started to pressurize Taleb to marry her.

On January 23, 2011, he set her afire after pouring kerosene on her body. Josna Begum helped him in the killing bid, by choking Josna.

The victim was rescued from the spot by the locals and taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

She was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where she died with 84 percent burn injuries.  

Afterwards, her father, as a plaintiff, filed a case with Comilla Sadar South Model Police Station, accusing two persons.
