SIRAJGANJ: A Sirajganj court on Tuesday (May 14) sentenced six men to life term rigorous imprisonment for the gang-rape of a housewife in Shahjadpur upazila in 2016.
The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each, in default; the convicts have to serve jail term for another year.
Judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir of Sirajganj Tribunal for Prevention for Women and Children Repression-1 pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are Tota, Alhaz, Alamgir, Bulbul, Jewel Rana and Ratan.
Advocate Abdul Hamid Lovlu, Special Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
According to the prosecution, Nazma Khatun, 25, wife of Farid Sarker of Dorgar Char village in Shahjadpur upazila, along with her parents, went to hear sermons at Uros of one Masum Bilalh’s house on February 26, 2016.
On their way back to parent’s home, the convicts intercepted them and violated Nazma by turn after beating up her husband.
Hearing her scream, locals rushed in and rescued them and caught two of culprits. Later, they were handed over to police.
Later, victim herself filed a case with Shahjadpur Police Station accusing six people of the crime.
