Examine WASA water at 34 points: HC

DHAKA: The High Court directed the authorities concerned to examine water supplied by Dhaka Water Supply & Sewerage Authority (WASA) at its four source points, 10 zones, 10 risky areas and 10 others parts of the city.

A committee, formed upon the court's direction, will have to collect samples of water and submit the report by July 2 after examining at the laboratories of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka University (DU) and icddr,b (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh).  

The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the order after DU Microbiology Department Chairman Dr Sabita Rezwana Rahman presented her opinion at the court Tuesday (May 21).

She is a member of the water examining committee.

Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju moved for the LGRD Ministry, at the courtroom, in presence of writ petitioner's lawyer Tanvir Ahmed.

On May 16, the state filed a report to the court, on behalf of LGRD Ministry.

The report stated WASA water in 59 areas under 10 zones very filthy, based on analyzing complaints of dirty water in last three months. 

On November 6, the HC ordered to form a four-member committee to examine WASA water, after hearing of a writ plea concerned.

On April 18 this year LGRD Ministry formed the committee.
