Khaleda’s court shifting writ hearing now June 10

DHAKA: The High Court adjourned till June 10 the hearing on a writ petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the legality of the government notification on court shifting to Keraniganj Central Jail.

A HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order in response to time petition filed by counsel of the petitioner.

Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state and Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan for ACC.

At the hearing, AJ Mohammad Ali said, Keraniganj was not in the city of Dhaka. There are also public trials as per law.

During this time, the court said, the charge-sheet should have been given. If you do so, then we will be able to understand.

Earlier on Sunday (May 26) BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia filed a writ petition with the High Court.

The writ sought a rule to be issued on why the gazette on shifting the Special Judge Court-9 to Keraniganj Central Jail Building-2 from the Old Central Jail, for running the trial in Niko Graft Case, won't be declared illegal, said lawyer Barrister Kaiser Kamal.

The writ also sought postponement on effectiveness of the gazette.

Secretaries to home and law ministries were made defendants in the plea.

Earlier, on May 21, Khaleda Zia's lawyer sent a legal notice seeking cancellation of the gazette.

The writ was filed on Sunday for not getting reply of the notice, said Barrister Kaisar Kamal.
