Barguna murder: HC asks IGP to issue red alert in borders Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal briefs reporters

DHAKA: The High Court asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to issue red alert in the bordering areas of the country so that the suspects of Rifat murder in Barguna cannot flee the country.

Deputy Attorney General Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar told the court that one of the accused in the murder case meanwhile has been arrested.

"Drives are on to arrest the rests. Each of the accused will be brought to book following arrest as soon as possible," he added after appearing before the court following its previous order to inform about the progress in legal steps taken over the brutal murder.

Abdullah Al-Mahmud-Bashar said that he has talked with the deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) of Barguna.

The HC told the state to ask the IGP issue red alert in the borders, as part of barring the accused from leaving the country.

However, 22-year-old Rifat Sharif from Barguna sadar upazila was allegedly hacked indiscriminately by his wife Ayesha Siddiqa Minni's alleged former husband and aides in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College Wednesday (June 26) morning.

A video of the brutal attack went viral on the social media, triggering widespread outrage as several bystanders was closely looking the incident but didn't come to protect the victim.

Rifat succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barishal in the afternoon.

Police, through scrutinizing a video footage of the incident, on Wednesday said the attackers were identified as Noyon Bond and his friends Nishan Farazi and Rabby Akon.

The victim's father Dulal Sharif accused 12 persons and unnamed six to seven others in a case filed with Barguna Police Station, at the night.

Police arrested one of the accused named Chandan early Thursday.
