CHANDPUR: A man and his friend were awarded death penalty by a district court for strangling his wife to death out of family feud at Sofibad village in Kachua upazila.

Judge Md. Julfikar Ali Khan of the district and sessions judge’s court of Chandpur also fined them Taka 10,000 each on Tuesday (July 2).

According to case statement, Shahnaz Begum was strangled to death by her husband Md. Manjil Miji and husband’s friend Mizanur Rahman while she was asleep on the night of September 23 of 2011.

Md. Shah Alam, father of Shahnaz, filed a case with Kachua Police Station on that day.

Public Prosecutor of the court Md. Aman Ullah told Banglanews: “The court took testimony from 12 of the 15 witnesses.
