KISHOREGANJ:  A couple was sentenced to life in prison by a district court for stabbing a man to death in Katiadi upazila of the district.

On Tuesday (July 2), Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim of district and sessions judge’s court of Kishoreganj fined them Taka 5 lakhs each, otherwise two years of rigorous punishment will be applicable.

The convicts were—Alimuddin, son of late Abu Bakar Siddique, of Achmita village under Katiadi upazila of the district and his wife Nurjahan. 

According to case statement, Alimuddin and his wife stabbed Mannan to death over cutting of a tree on August 8 of 2004.

Mannan was the son of late Nurujjaman of the abovementioned area.

Fatema Khatun, mother of the victim, filed a case with Katiadi Model police station on that day.

Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Yajeshwar Roy moved for the state while Advocate Ashok Sarkar stood for the state.
