JAMALPUR: A life-term convict was released from Jamalpur District Jail around 10 years after he was granted presidential clemency.
On Tuesday (July 16) noon, Ajmot Ali was freed from the jail.
Jail Superintendent Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
Ajmot Ali, a resident of Pakhimara village under Sarishabari upazila, was handed life in jail by Jamalpur District and Sessions Judge's Court on March 8, 1989, in a murder case.
He was accused of killing one Rezaul Karim from the same locality over a land dispute on April 1, 1987.
He came out of the jail after being granted presidential clemency on August 21, 1996. Afterwards, he was acquitted by the High Court on March 2, 2005.
Again he was sent to the same jail on October 19, 2009 following a leave-to-appeal challenging the HC verdict.
On June 27 this year, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed a review plea, after Ajmot Ali's daughter Beauty Khatun filed a plea.
