DHAKA: The High Court asked authorities concerned to inform what steps have been taken to ensure security of the judges, lawyers and officials in the courts across the country following the incident of an accused stabbed to death by another suspect inside Cumilla court.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan on Wednesday (July 17) gave the order during hearing a writ petition seeking security of judges and the court.
The HC also wanted to known about steps taken against those who were in charge of the security at the Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court where the incident happened.
Earlier on July 15, a murder accused was stabbed to death by another right in front of judge inside a Cumilla court.
Later on July 16, Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan filed the writ petition in the HC seeking its directives on the government to take proper security measures for the judges and the court.
After hearing the writ petition, the court asked the authorities concerned of the government inform on the steps taken to ensure proper security measures in the courts across the country within July 30.
Till that date, the court kept the petition standover.
Deputy Attorney General Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar moved for the state in the courtroom.
In the petition, Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, RAB Director General has been made the defendants.
