DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Monday (July 22) sentenced four former officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to different terms in jail in a case filed for embezzling Tk 28.58 lakh by making fake bills and vouchers in 2001.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam passed the order in presence of three of the convicts.

The convicts include Harun-or-Rashid, Mohammad Jinnah, MAST Chowdhury (Mir Abu Sayed Taifuddin Chowdhury) and MA Rob.

Of them, Jinnah, Harun and Taifuddin were fined Tk 25 each, in default; they will have to serve one year more jail term.

Besides, MA Rob was fined Tk 15 lakh, in default; he will have to serve another year imprisonment.

Of them, the court issued arrest warrant against Harun as he was on the run.

On September 5, 2010, ACC deputy director Benzir Ahmed filed five cases against Biman officials with Airport Thana.

They are accused with the embezzling of Tk 28.58 lakh by placing fake bills.

Earlier on January 23, 2014, the Anti Corruption Commission on Thursday has approved charge sheets against five officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Investigation team of the anti-graft body, formed in this regard, has got proofs of their corruption. The ACC approved the team’s appeal of the charge sheet.

Later on January 28 of 2016, the ACC pressed charges against them after an investigation into the matter.
