Four to die for murder in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ: A court here on Wednesday (July 24) sentenced four people to death for killing a college student in Singair upazila in Manikganj district in 2017.

The condemned convicts are Hazrat Ali, Shamsu Mia, Rakib Ahmed and Jahangir. 

Another accused Helalur Rahman has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment. The court also fined Helalur Tk 20,000.

According to the prosecution, Rassel, son of Ansar Fakir of East Bhakum village in the upazila and Twelfth class student of Savar Legend College, came out of home after receiving call from his friend on 26 November, 2017.

Then, he went missing and kidnapper demanded ransom from family members over the phone. They paid Tk 35,000 in two phases through bKash. In the meantime, victim’s father filed a general diary.

After six days of his missing, police recovered the body of Rassel from an abandoned place of nearby housing company.

On July 12 November in 2018, police submitted a chargesheet against the convicts.

After examining the records and witnesses, Manikganj District and Session Judge Mamtaj Begum handed down the verdict in presence of the accused.
