DHAKA: Green Line Paribahan paid second installment Tk 5 lakh as compensation money to Russel Sarker who lost his leg as a bus of the transport group ran over him.
The cheque was handed over at the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader on Monday (July 29).
During the time, Palash Chandra Roy, lawyer for Green Line and Rafiul Islam Rafi, lawyer of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) were present at the courtroom.
Earlier on June 25, the High Court has ordered Green Line Paribahan to clear the rest Tk 45 lakh compensation money to Russel Sarker who lost his leg as a bus of the transport group ran over him, through paying Tk 5 lakh as monthly installment.
The court also Green Line to pay Tk 5 lakh by the first seven day of every month and submit report before it by the 15th day of the month.
Earlier on April 10, Green Line Paribahan had paid Tk 5-lakh to Russel Sarkar who lost his leg as a bus of the transport group ran over him.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader asked Md Alauddin, owner of the Green Line Paribahan, to pay the rest Tk 45 lakh to Russel in next one month.
Earlier in the day, Aji Ullah, lawyer of Green Line, told the court that Green Line owner returned home after treatment. He came to the court. But they have some complications. They appealed for one month more to implement the HC order.
Then, the court ordered the transport group to pay a portion of compensation money to Russel by 3:00pm and appear before it again.
Later, the transport group owner handed over the cheque of Tk 5-lakh at the courtroom.
Earlier on April 4, the High Court granted Green Line Paribahan Ltd 7 days to compensate Dhaka road crash victim Russel Sarker Tk 50 lakh.
The bus authorities were also directed to submit a report in affidavit format upon implementing the order, within April 10.
Otherwise, the bus authorities cannot sell advance tickets for April 11 onwards.
In the morning, the court summoned the bus company’s GM to appear before it by 2pm over avoiding its earlier order to compensate Russel.
On Mar 12, the same HC bench ordered Green Line to compensate the victim within two weeks.
Besides, the bus authorities were directed to carry the costs if Russel requires a surgery on leg and implantation of an artificial leg.
Russel Sarker, then a rent-a-car driver, lost his left leg under the wheel of a Green Line Paribahan bus on the slope of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar area of Jatrabari on Apr 28, 2018.
On May 14, 2018, the court earlier issued a rule why Russel won’t be compensated with one crore taka, following a writ petition from former lawmaker Umme Kulsum Smrity.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court too upheld the HC order after rejecting an appeal of Green Line on March 31.
