5 to die, 6 get life for killing Kushtia farmer

KUSHTIA: A Kushtia court awarded death penalty to five persons and sentenced life imprisonment to six others for killing a farmer over dominance.

Judge Munsi Md. Moshiar Rahman Jonakirno of Women and Children Repression Prevention Special Court of Kushtia sentenced jail terms to six other convicts on various grounds in the case on Wednesday (July 31).

The court also fined them Taka 50,000 each. Otherwise, one year of punishment will be applicable.

The death-raw convicts were-- Masud, 38, son of Motiar Rahman of Poradah village of Mirpur upazila, Parvez, 43, son of Ansar Ali, Haribar Rahman, 52, son of Syed Ali,   Fazlur Rahman, 55, and Sarwar Hossain, 39.

The lifers were- Bilal Hossain, 42, Manju, 34, Sohel Rana, 38, Ramiz Ali, 40, Motiar Rahman, 50 and Kabir Hossain, 43.

Bhutto, Rocky, Enayet and Salam were sentenced to three years and Nanu and Farid were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

Public Prosecutor (PP) of Kushtia judge court Anup Kumar Nandi said allegations proved with any shred of doubt. The court delivered its verdict in the justified manner.

According to court sources, a clash took place between two parties centering on dominance in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on 20 December of 2014. A farmer named Nurul Islam, 55, got killed in the clash. Later, Shahinur Rahman Sajib, son of the deceased, filed a case with Mirpur police station.
