FARIDPUR: A Faridpur court on Sunday (August 4) sentenced six men to life term rigorous imprisonment for the gang-rape of two teenage schoolgirls in Charbhadrasan upazila in 2016.
The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each, in default; the convicts have to serve jail term for three more years.
Judge Alamgir Kabir of Faridpur Tribunal for Prevention for Women and Children Repression pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are Ujjal Khan, 25, Shukur Ali, 26, Mirage Sheikh 25, Elias Beppar, 20 and Shafi Mollah, 25. All hail from the Salepur village in Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur district.
Advocate Swapan Paul, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
According to the prosecution, the convicts kidnapped two teenaged school girls of Salepur village in Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur on April 14, 2016 and gang raping them at a char of the Padma River and captured video of the incident.
Later, Aynal Musalli, father of one of the victims, filed kidnapping and rape case with Charbhadrasan police station accusing the five men on June 11, 2016.
After examining all the records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict around 12:30pm, said PP of the Faridpur tribunal. All the convicts are absconding.
