DHAKA: Supreme Court on Sunday (August 18) ordered to dispose of a rule issued by the High Court staying investigation of a case filed under ICT Act against noted photographer Shahidul Alam.
The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain asked to dispose of the rule by December 18 in response to a plea of the state challenging the HC stay.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while former attorney general AF Hassan Ariff along with Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua moved for Shahidul Alam, at the courtroom.
On March 14, the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil issued the stay on investigation of the case, along with a rule.
On November 15 last year, the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Vishmadev Chakrabarty granted Shahidul Islam bail in the same case.
Shahidul pleaded to the HC over legality of the case in March.
Police placed Shahidul on remand on charge of spreading propaganda, after detaining him from his residence during the road safety protests on August 5, 2018.
