DHAKA: The Appellate Division of Supreme Court fixed Tuesday (August 20) to issue its judgment on a state plea that sought stay on a High Court order imposing two months' status-quo on gazette publication of journalists' 9th Wage Board.

Hearing on the state plea concluded Monday (August 19) as the Appellate Division bench was headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while former Attorney General AF Hassan Ariff moved for Newspapers Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), at the courtroom.

On August 6, the High Court ordered the authorities concerned to maintain a status-quo for two months on implementation of the gazette notification of the 9th Wage Board.

The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Mohammad Ali issued the order along with a rule following hearing a petition filed by NOAB President Matiur Rahman.

Afterwards, the government filed a petition with the SC seeking a stay on the HC order that imposed a status-quo on publication of the gazette notification.
