HABIGANJ: Four persons were sentenced to life in prison in a case filed for killing two persons took place 21 years ago in Baniachong upazila of the district.
Judge Nasim Reza of district and sessions judge’s court of Habiganj delivered the verdict on Thursday (August 22).
Inspector of the court Md. Al-Amin confirmed the information to Banglanews.
The four convicts were-- Karam Ali, son of Haji Ismail of Puran Patharia village, Ali Mohammad, son of late Helim Ullah, Suruj Ali, son of Abdul Hashim and Turab Ali, son of late Sanjab Ali--were present at court. Later, they were sent to prison.
According to court sources, a clash took place over previous enmity and dominance between two groups in Baniachong upazila on September 19 of 1998. During the clash, two persons, who went by the names of Samsul Haque and Nur Mohammad, were killed and around a hundred people injured from both of the groups.
Nur Mohammad’s brother filed a case against 130 people with Baniachong police station.
Sub Inspector (SI) of the police station Amrendra Biswas submitted the charge sheet on August 11 of 1999. After taking witness from 11 persons, the court sentenced Karam Ali to life in prison. The other accused were acquitted.
On the other hand, a relative of both of the deceased-Atikunnesa- filed a murder case against 62 persons on the day of the incident. SI Amrendra Biswas submitted the charge sheet on August 11 of 1999. After taking witness from 9 persons, the court sentenced Ali Mohammd, Suruj Ali and Turab Ali to life in prison.
