DHAKA: The High Court asked the government to inform what measures it has taken against the lynching incidents and its perpetrators.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal on Monday (August 26) passed the order following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan seeking necessary orders regarding the issue.
The home secretary and the inspector general of police have been asked to submit separate reports to the court by November 28.
It also issued a rule asking the government to explain why its failure to protect Taslima Begum Ranu and others who were killed in mob beatings on different dates in July should not be declared illegal.
She submitted the petition to the High Court today seeking its rule on the government to explain its failure to protect the victims of the incidents of mob beating.
Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Information Secretary, IG of Police and DMP Commissioner were made the defendants in the writ.
Some days ago, rumors of mob beating incidents took place across the country. Taslima Begum Renu, 40, went to a local school in North Badda in the capital on July 20 to gather information about admitting her baby girl. She was dragged out of the headmaster's room on suspicion of being child abductor and killed in mob beating.
