Why Renu’s family not to get Tk 1cr compensation: HC

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) issued a rule upon the government to explain in four weeks as to why it should not be directed to compensate Tk 1 crore to family members of Taslima Begun Renu who killed in mob beating in city’s Badda area recently.

The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule after hearing the writ petition filed by family members of the victim.

Secretary of Public Security Division, Education Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Officer in-charge of Badda Police Station, Headmaster of North Badda Government Primary School and its governing body president were made respondent to the rule.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan moved for the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy stood for the state.

Taslima Begum Renu, 40, went to a local school in North Badda of the capital on Saturday morning (July 20) to get information for admitting her daughter.

She was dragged away from the headmaster’s room on suspicion of a child abductor.

The deceased’s nephew Nasir Uddin filed a case with city’s Badda police station against some 400-500 persons.
