DHAKA: A court here on Tuesday (September 3) sent to jail former caretaker government adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein in the defamation case filed by journalist Masuda Bhatti.
The court asked the jail authorities to provide him division facilities as per the jail code.
Mainul was sent to jail after he surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain and pleaded bail earlier in the day.
Dhaka Bar Association former president Golam Mostafa, Aminul Islam and Mohiuddin Chowdhury stood for him, in the hearing.
Mainul was earlier granted bail by the High Court after female journalist Masuda Bhatti filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on October 21, 2018 accusing him of making derogatory comments on her in a TV talk show.
Mainul apologized in a press release after calling Masuda a 'characterless' in the talk show broadcasted on October 16.
But, Masuda wanted him to offer her apology in person.
