DHAKA: A court here on Sunday (September 8) granted bail to former caretaker government adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein in the defamation case filed by journalist Masuda Bhatti.

Mohiuddin Chowdhury moved for him at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain.

Mainul Hosein was sent to jail after he surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain and pleaded bail on September 3.

Mainul Hosein was earlier granted bail by the High Court after female journalist Masuda Bhatti filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on October 21, 2018 accusing him of making derogatory comments on her in a TV talk show.

Mainul apologized in a press release after calling Masuda a 'characterless' in the talk show broadcasted on October 16.

But, Masuda wanted him to offer her apology in person.
