PABNA: Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station Obaidul Huq has been suspended for his controversial role in arranging marriage of a gang-rape victim with a suspected rapist.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Pabna Ibne Mizan confirmed the matter this evening.

The suspension order was issued by Police Headquarters on Tuesday, he added.

Earlier on September 12, Obaidul Huq was closed while Ekramul Huq, sub-inspector of the same police station was suspended over the incident.

Besides, four accused were arrested in the gang-rape incident.

Earlier on August 29, a woman was gang-raped allegedly by Rasel Ahmed and a cohort. She was later taken and locked in an office where, four to five men violated her for four days.

However, the woman managed to flee and was admitted to Pabna General Hospital on September 5. A complaint was also filed with the station in this regard.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station then arrested Rasel and had allegedly arranged the marriage between the victim and the accused.
