SUNAMGANJ: A district court awarded death penalty to a man and life-term imprisonment to three others for killing a van driver in Sunamganj in 2016.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of additional district and sessions judge’s court of Sunamganj delivered the verdict on Monday (September 23).
Abdur Noor, who hails from Shimultola village of Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj, was given death sentence, but life-term imprisonment were given to Shahnur Mia, Idris Ali and Habibur Rahman.
The lifers were fined Taka 20,000. Otherwise, three months of imprisonment will be applicable.
According to the case statement, a van driver namely Tabirullah, who hails from Shimultola village of Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj, had friction with his neighbor Abdur Nur over home border. On April 21 of 2016, Abdur Nur and his men attacked Tabirullah with locally-made arms centering on the issue. As a result, Tabirullah became seriously injured. He was first taken to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. But, he died on the way to Sylhet seeking better treatment.
Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court Sayeed Ziaur Rahman said the convicts were present at the court. The plaintiff expressed satisfaction over the verdict.
