JHALOKATHI:  Additional district and sessions judge’s court of Jhalokathi awarded death penalty to two persons and life-term imprisonment to three others for killing a woman in 2002.

Judge of the court Sheikh Tofael Hasan gave the order in presence of the convicts on Monday (September 23).

Khairul Alam alias Sheikh Hasan, son of late Abul Hasan, hailing from Rajpasha village under Shekher Ghat union of sadar upazila, and Pilton alias Pintu, son of late Jalal Sardar of the same area were given death sentence.

But life-term imprisonment sentences were given to Ripon Miah and Salam Miah, sons of Abul Hossen, hailing from the abovementioned area, and Shaadat Hossen, son of Abdus Sobahan. 

According to case statement, a robbery incident took place at Anwara Begum’s residence on May 17 of 2002. During the incident, Anwara Begum lit the lights and recognized the robbers. As a result, robbers killed Anwara Begum.

The following day, a case was filed with sadar police station. Later, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) accused seven persons of the area and registered a murder case on October 10 of 2003.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) M Alam Kamal moved the case for the state while Abdur Rashid Shikder stood for the convicts.
