DHAKA: A Dhaka court framed charges against eight people, including sacked major Zia ul Haque, in the case filed over the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan in 2015.
Judge Majibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal on Sunday (Oct 13) set November 18 for recording deposition in the sensational murder case.
The eight include ---Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Imran, 24; Abdus Sabur alias Samad alias Sujon alias Raju, 23; top ABT operatives Khairul Islam alias Fahim alias Jishan, 24, Sheikh Abdullah, 27, Abu Siddiq Sohel, 34, and Mozammel Hossain alias Saimon, 25.
Earlier on November 15, 2018 Detectives pressed charges against eight members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam, also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), in connection with the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan.
Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) Fazlur Rahman, also the investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against them to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court of Dhaka.
Six of the eight suspects have been arrested under several cases, including the one for the murder of Dipan.
They have also given confessional statements in court, admitting their involvement in the Dipan killing as claimed by police earlier in a press conference on October 30.
Earlier on November 31 in 2015, Foysal Arefin Dipan was chopped dead at Shahbagh in city Saturday afternoon. The deceased published several books of slain blogger Avijit Roy.
Later on November 2, wife of slain publisher Dipan filed a murder case with Shahbagh police station against unknown people.
Another case was filed with Mohammadpur police station in city on the day.
