DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday (Nov 19) upheld the lower court verdict that had sentenced former minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin to 13 years’ imprisonment and his son Mir Helal Uddin to three years’ one in a corruption case.
The HC bench of Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice Fatema Najib issued the order rejecting the petitions filed by them challenging the lower court verdict.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said the court also asked Nasir and Helal to surrender before the lower court within three months after receiving the copy of the HC verdict.
On March 6, 2007, the ACC filed the case against former State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mir Nasir Uddin and his son Mir Helal Uddin with Gulshan Police Station for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information.
Later on July 4, 2007, the Special Judge Court sentenced Nasir to 13 years’ imprisonment and his son Helal to three years’ jail.
