Shomi Kaiser’s defamation case shifted to PBI

DHAKA: The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) was given the task to investigate the Tk 100 crore defamatory case filed against actress Shomi Kaiser for calling journalists ‘thieves’ at a programme in Jatiya Press club in April last.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman passed the order on Monday (November 25).

Earlier on October 24, Inspector (Operation) of Shahbagh Police Station Mahbubur Rahman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the final report claiming that allegations did not testify.

As a result, Md Nuzhatul Hasan, a complainant of the case, filed a naraji (no confidence) petition against the final report.

Mohammad Rakib, a bench-clerk of the court confirmed the matter.

On April 24, Shomi Kaiser, also the president of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), lost her two cell phones during an event at the National Press Club in the capital.

Right after that incident, her security guards locked the gate and searched all the journalists and guests.

Md Nuzhatul Hasan filed this defamation case under section 500 on April 30.
