DHAKA: The High Court (HC) issued a rule asking authorities concerned to formulate a policy or directive to prevent foetal sex determination of the unborn children.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Monday (February 3).
The writ was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan
The court asked health secretary, women and children affairs secretary and social welfare secretary to respond with the rule with in six weeks.
The bench also asked the defendants to show cause why their failure in preparing a guideline to prevent gender detection of foetus, to ensure protection of the mother and her unborn child, should not be declared illegal.
Advocate Ishart moved for the writ while Assistant Attorney General MMG Sarwar Payel stood for the state during the hearing.
