Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori has said Japan is interested to increase defense cooperation with Bangladesh.

The ambassador was addressing the media at the Japanese embassy on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, in Tokyo.

In response to a question at the press conference, the Japanese ambassador said that Japan is interested in supporting Bangladesh in the defense sector. "We are continuing the discussion in this regard. Defense equipment support is under discussion."

When asked to comment on the upcoming national elections of Bangladesh, the Japanese envoy said that the elections are an internal matter of Bangladesh. 

"I do not want to comment on this. But whoever is in power, Japan will work with Bangladesh," he also added.
