The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday (November 21) directed field officials not to stop registering and correcting National Identity Cards (NID), alongside the ongoing tasks of the 12th National Parliamentary Elections.
Senior Assistant Secretary of EC (Election Support Wing) Nasir Uddin Chowdhury sent the instructions to all regional officers, district election officers, and upazila election officers in this regard.
The decision came following the EC received reports that some field officials have been refusing to provide NID services, citing the election schedule as an excuse.
According to the EC, a valid NID is now mandatory, and no citizen should be denied this essential service.
According to the instruction that has been sent said that in the 24th meeting of the Election Commission on October 5, it has been decided to continue the revision process with new registration for NID.
