One held with 100 bhori gold in Chuadanga

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a youth along with 10 gold bars weighing 1.166kg (100 bhori) in Chuadanga on Friday (Mar 8).

The arrestee was identified as Mamun Mondol, 28. 

He was arrested at Sultanpur Nastipur village in Darshan of the district on around 4 pm.

Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman confirmed the matter through a press release.

According to press release, few passengers were heading towards the border area in Chuadanga by an easy bike. At that time, BGB members stopped a vehicle out of suspicion and conducted a search operation.

However, 10 gold bars hidden in Mamun’s waist was recovered after search and then arrested, read press release. 

Estimated market value of the recovered gold is Tk 1.10 crore, said the release.

The alleged person was arrested for transporting gold to India illegally, said Zahidur Rahman.

He said that the process of filing a case against the detained person at Darshana Police Station and depositing the gold bars at the Chuadanga Treasury Office is under process.
