DHAKA: Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her assuming the office as Prime Minister of Bangladesh for second consecutive term.

In a press release of the external publicity wing of the foreign ministry confirmed the matter on Thursday.

The Maldives President expressed hope and aspirations that the friendly relations existing between two countries will be further strengthened during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina.

Besides, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director-General Francis Gurry and International Telecommunications Union Secretary General Dr Hamadoun Touré congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Russian President Vladimir Putin, China Prime Minister Li Keqiang, Vietnam, Combodia and Laos prime ministers congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
