New rule scraps special security provision for Bangabandhu’s family

The advisers of the interim government on Wednesday approved an ordinance to end the state-sponsored special security measures for the family members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as reserving the provision for a single family was deemed discriminatory.

The advisory council also approved an ordinance to amend the “Special Security Force (SSF) Act.” Through the amendment, the clauses that mandated SSF support for Bangabandhu’s family were removed, and a new clause was added for extending SSF support to the chief adviser of the interim government.

The two ordinances were approved at an advisory council meeting held at state guesthouse Jamuna in the capital.

The ousted Awami League regime passed the "Father of the Nation Security of Family Members Act, 2009 (Act No. 63 of 2009)", and issued a gazette in this regard on 15 May 2015.

However, the current interim government is the result of a mass upsurge led by students against discrimination, and thus it is committed to uphold the dream of eliminating all forms of discriminations.
