BCL men to face action if hold meetings, processions: IGP

Police will take action against members of the recently banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) under the Anti-Terrorism Act if they stage demonstrations or bring out processions elsewhere in the country.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam came up with the warning while addressing a function marking the sixth-anniversary of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP), held at Rangpur Police Lines School and College on Saturday.

“The BCL has been banned for its previous activities. As a banned outfit, its activists cannot hold meetings or processions anywhere in the country. If they do so, action will be taken under the Anti-Terrorism Act,” said IGP Mainul Islam.

In the past 15 years, the people who were unqualified obtained firearms licenses and used those against the innocent people during the recent mass upsurge, he said.

The cohorts of the fascist regime killed and injured many people during the topple-government movement with their licensed arms deliberately, he said.

Recalling the memories of the martyr Abu Saeed, the IGP said the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is now investigating the case and arrested 21 people, including two policemen, in this connection so far.

He claimed some misguided policemen were involved in killings that took place during the July-August nationwide unrest.
