Man jumps to death from hospital building in Bogura

A man allegedly committed suicide after jumping from the 16th floor of a hospital building in Bogura’s Sadar upazila early Tuesday (Nov 19).

The incident occurred around 5am at the TMSS Medical College Hospital premises in the Tengamara area.

The deceased Mamunur Rashid, 38, a resident of Telihara village in Bogura Sadar, was the son of Abdur Rahim. He worked as an area manager for ACI Company in Noakhali.

According to sources, Mamunur went missing while working in Noakhali, and his family had filed a general diary (GD) with the police. On Tuesday morning, police were informed by TMSS Medical College Hospital about a man jumping to his death from the 16th floor.

Police investigations revealed that Mamunur had rented a room at Hotel Mahathir in Matidali, Bogura, on Monday afternoon. He went out around 10pm, returned to the hotel at midnight, and left again at 4am. CCTV footage from the hospital confirmed he jumped from the building.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Moinuddin of Bogura Sadar Police Station said hospital staff reported that the man had attempted to jump from the 17th floor railing on Monday night but was stopped by bystanders and escorted away. However, he returned early Tuesday morning and jumped from the 16th floor.

The body has been sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.

Preliminary investigations suggest Mamunur might have taken his own life due to marital disputes with his wife.
