Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman on Tuesday (December 17) said that former Chief Justices ABM Khairul Haque and Syed Mahmud Hossain should face accountability for their controversial roles, which contributed to undermining the judiciary.
Speaking at his office after the High Court’s verdict invalidating parts of the 15th Amendment to the Constitution, the attorney general accused Justice Khairul Haque of deviating from the original judgment on the caretaker government system and Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain of playing a significant role in weakening the judiciary.
He further claimed that these actions had far-reaching consequences, including a setback for democracy and increased incidents of forced disappearances, killings, and politically motivated cases in the country.
Asaduzzaman argued that their decisions led to grave impacts on governance, stating, “There should be consequences for such actions.”
