The government is set to facilitate the sale of meat, eggs, and milk at 25 locations across Dhaka in a bid to ensure affordable access to essential food items during Ramadan.
Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter made the announcement today (February 17) at a press conference held at the Ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat of the capital.
While briefing, Farida Akhtar outlined measures to stabilize supply and prices for key products such as broiler meat, eggs, milk, and beef throughout the holy month.
She said: “From the first to the 28th day of Ramadan, mobile sales will offer dressed broilers, eggs, pasteurized milk, and beef at affordable prices within Dhaka, while broilers, eggs, pasteurized milk, beef, and mutton will be available across the country.”
The initiative will prioritize areas in Dhaka that saw strong public engagement during the July Revolution, including several slum areas, to ensure accessibility for all citizens.
The program will receive support from key stakeholders, including the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC), the Bangladesh Dairy and Fattening Farmers Association (BDFFA), and various milk processing institutions, alongside marginal farmers.
The marketing program for Ramadan will be officially launched on February 28 at 10:30 am at the Siraj Mia Memorial Model School premises in the South Baridhara Residential Area.
The sale prices are as follows: dressed broiler meat (250 BDT per kg), pasteurized milk (80 BDT per liter), eggs (114 BDT per dozen), and beef (650 BDT per kg).
The 25 designated sales points in Dhaka include key areas such as the Secretariat (Abdul Gani Road), Khamarbari (Farmgate), Sixty-foot Road (Mirpur), Azimpur Matrisadan, Nayabazar, and several others.
Expected daily sales volumes include 60,000 eggs, 6,000 liters of pasteurized milk, 2,000 kg of dressed broiler meat, and 2,000-2,500 kg of beef.
