Couple Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Uttara

A man and his wife were killed in a motorcycle accident in Uttara, Dhaka, on early Tuesday (Feb 18), according to police.

The accident occurred around 2:30 am on the road opposite the Uttara BNS Center.

The victims were identified as 32-year-old Abdur Rahman Rabbi and his 30-year-old wife Karima Akter Mim.

According to Tanjila, a close friend of the couple, Rabbi and Mim were visiting her house in the Tongi College Gate area of Gazipur to celebrate the birthday of Tanjila's husband, Muntasir Mahmud. After the celebration, Rabbi suggested having dinner at a restaurant in Mirpur-2 or 300 Feet area. The two couples were traveling on separate motorcycles when the incident occurred.

Tanjila said that Rabbi, who was riding behind, called to check in and was informed by a police officer that the couple had been injured in the accident. Upon arrival, Tanjila found them seriously injured. Rabbi and Mim were initially taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Mim was declared dead at 2:45 am, while Rabbi passed away at 6:45 am, she added.

Uttara East Police Station Sub-Inspector Jasim Uddin Dewan said that when they arrived at the scene, they found the couple’s motorcycle on the road, but the cause of the crash remains unclear. 

Local witnesses did not observe the accident, and the bodies are now at the DMCH morgue for autopsy. 

Authorities are investigating the matter.
